Information by USAG Stuttgart Public Affairs
Thursday, October 3, is German Unity Day (Tag der Deutschen Einheit), a public holiday across Germany. The holiday commemorates the reunification of the former ‘East Germany’ and ‘West Germany’ into a single country for the for the first time since 1945.
Some services around the garrison staffed largely by local national professionals will be closed on these days, including: the Army Housing Office, Driver Testing Office, and Vehicle (POV) Inspection/Customer Service Team. Vehicle Registration will be serving appointments only, with no walk-in service.
If you’re not sure whether a service will be open, check their page on the USAG Stuttgart app or garrison website. If an office closes or adjusts availability on German holidays, this will be noted. For further questions, please contact the service directly.
Assume that most places on the economy which are usually closed on Sundays will also be closed on the holiday. This includes off-post grocery and retail stores (Commissaries and Exchange-operated facilities will be operating with normal hours).
Thursday closures
For planning purposes, please be aware that the following services also have regular training and administrative closures on Thursday.
- Closed Thursday morning (hours vary by service): Central Issue Facility; Driver Training/Testing, Personal Property Processing Office, Law Center
- Closed all day, last Thursday of each month: Military Personnel Division, Central Processing Facility, Passport/SOFA Office, Reassignments.
