U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Stuttgart staff continue their preparations to host the final training sessions for the U.S. Paralympic swim team.

The team is scheduled to arrive at the garrison this coming Saturday, August 17. This allows plenty of time for athletes to acclimate to the European environment in advance of the Paralympic games in Paris which start August 28.

“We are looking forward to swim team’s arrival this weekend,” said USAG Stuttgart Commander Col. Kirk Alexander.  “We want the athletes and support staff to feel right at home as they prep for competition in Paris.”

Stuttgart military community members are invited to come to the Panzer Hotel welcome the 33 athletes and support staff as they get off the bus. Those who want to welcome the team should plan to be present at the hotel at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Another opportunity to meet some of the athletes is scheduled for a week from Wednesday, August 21.  Community members can get autographs from swimmers in an event at the main Exchange at Panzer that runs from 3-4 p.m. that day.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide this opportunity for the community to meet the athletes,” said Robin Boylan, EUCOM Consolidated Exchange General Manager.

To accommodate training needs of the athletes, some adjustments in operating hours are planned for the Panzer Fitness Center.  The facility will be closed between 12:45 and 2 p.m. daily from August 18-22.  The basketball court will also be closed from 12:30-2 p.m. on August 17 and from 2-3 p.m. on August 23 to accommodate team meetings.

The swimming competition is scheduled to start August 29, the second day of the games, and run through September 8.
