European Football Championship 2024 in Stuttgart – Construction on Schlossplatz at its final stages
The European Football Championship kicks off Friday at 9 p.m. with the German national team’s match against Scotland. Preparations are nearing completion at the Schlossplatz, where 35,000 people can watch soccer on two giant screens. Until the final match on July 14, the European Championships will be celebrated, soccer will be watched and parties will be held at Schlossplatz, Karlsplatz, Schillerplatz and Marktplatz.
To ensure that everything goes as planned, work was carried out on Wednesday. By Thursday evening, everything has to be ready on Schlossplatz. The concert with Leony, Topic, Robin Schulz and Le Shuuk, which officially opens the fan zone, starts at 5 p.m.

European Football Championship 2024 in Stuttgart – on some days there is a risk of traffic collapse in the city center
The European Football Championship is just around the corner. On June 14, the opening match between Germany and Scotland will kick off a major sporting event that will see many people on the move. The state capital alone is expecting 200,000 fans a day to be here for the European Championship matches.
But where there are a lot of people, there is also a lot of movement – especially when it comes to mobility and travel around the matches and the fan festival in Stuttgart. The motto here is: as much mobility as possible with as much safety as necessary. . The main aim is to encourage as many visitors as possible to leave their cars behind and travel to the event by bus or train.
“To this end, we are offering an increased public transport service to avoid traffic jams and parking problems,” said Transport Minister Hermann.
Public transport services have not only been expanded within Stuttgart; especially during the five match days in the stadium; but the state has also increased regional rail services for the European Championships.
“There are more trains with more seating capacity,” says Hermann. A total of 366 special trains with around 187,000 additional seats will be offered.
Here are the upcoming road closures due to the mass marching of soccer fans:
When several thousand fans march from the city center towards Neckarpark, road closures will have to be arranged on match days.
The following closures are planned:
• Sunday, June 16, marching of the Danish fans from Stadtgarten to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station.) Friedrichstraße will therefore have to be closed in both directions for several hours from 1 pm.
• Wednesday, June 19, the Hungarian and German fans are scheduled to walk to the stadium. Cannstatter Straße, Wolframstraße and König-Karls-Brücke will therefore have to be closed from around 12 noon to 6 pm. The same applies to Friedrichstraße and Heilbronner Straße (from/to Wolframstraße) in both directions from 13:00 to around 16:30.
• Sunday, June 23, the Hungarians will once again march to the stadium. Cannstatter Straße, Wolframstraße and König-Karls-Brücke will be closed again from around 3 pm. Due to the transfer of the Scots from the Stadtgarten to the main railway station, Friedrichstraße will be closed in both directions for several hours from 5 pm.
