COVID-19 impacts base maintenance, self-help

Update: Patch SHIP (Self-Help) has reopened for walk-in customers effective September 24. The Robinson Barracks self-help point will reopen with normal operating days/hours on September 29.

An employee of U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart’s base maintenance contractor tested positive on Sunday for coronavirus after feeling symptoms over the weekend.

The employee works in in the contractor’s main office on Patch Barracks. Because the employee had contact with co-workers prior to developing symptoms, contact tracing and testing has occurred.

Contractor leadership responded quickly, placing any member of the contracting team who may have been in close contact with the employee into a 14-day quarantine.

While many of these employees can telework, this quarantine order impacts tradesmen in the heating and air conditioning, electrical and plumbing sections, quality control inspectors and management.  There will be an impact to routine maintenance responses.

Additionally, the self-help store on Patch Barracks is closed for two weeks. The self-help mobile service at Robinson Barracks, normally held twice a week, will also be closed during this time.  These services resume beginning Oct. 5.

The contractor has detailed records of all base housing and locations visited by these employees. Should any more employees test positive, garrison officials will notify anyone impacted.

Updates will be available on StuttgartCitizen.com.
