Army Soldier Show visits USAG Stuttgart

From Michael Jackson’s signature dance moves to music by today’s hit singers, Soldiers in the 2010 Army Soldier Show can do it all.

And so they did, to the delight of a packed-out crowd in U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart’s Patch Fitness Center May 26.

Cast members brought the audience to their feet to dance and clap along to a variety of music and dance styles, ranging from hip hop and rap to Gospel, rock and Broadway tunes.

Army Entertainment’s latest version of the show featured classic hits, including the Jackson 5’s “ABC,” and modern songs like Disturbed’s “Indestructible.”

The cast also performed a tribute to Michael Jackson, and one song that’s been around as long as the Soldier Show, “Someday I’m Going to Murder the Bugler.”
The performance in Stuttgart was one out of 101 shows scheduled at 53 venues this year, including eight stops in Germany.

This year’s theme is “Soldier Show 27.0” as a tribute to its 27-year history, and included music and history on the show’s founder, Irving Berlin. It also centered around today’s social media networks, and included some computer animation on instant messaging and social media sites to introduce the songs.

The 90-minute performance concluded with a song written by the cast: “We’re Gonna Make It,” inspired by one of the show’s sponsors, the U.S. Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program.

After thunderous applause, the crowd joined the cast to sing a joint rendition of the Army Song.
