U.S. Army Garrison Stuttgart held a memorial to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S. and the downing of United Airlines Flight 93.
The ceremony was held at the flag pole in front of Building 2962 on Panzer Kaserne Sept. 11 at 10:03 a.m., marking the time of Flight 93’s impact in a Pennsylvania field and the end of the attacks.
Navy Petty officer Timothy J. Kuiper and other Navy chief selects read a series of remembrances of the events of 9/11 at the ceremony.
A wreath was laid at the flagpole by local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander, John Leffler, and Senior Vice Commander, Joe Holder and a rendition of the hymn “Amazing Grace” was played on the bagpipes.
2,977 innocent people were killed in the attacks on New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania, including more than 400 police officers, firefighters, and first responders.
373 foreign nationals, including 11 German citizens, perished in the attacks.
